The Geyje Norling Monastery was first founded about 200 year ago by tibetan monks. The old name of the Monastery is Guchula. It was renamed Geyje Norling Monastery by the abbot of the Tawang Monastery Loling Dhenma Gyalsely Ringpoche. The Monastery which is situatad on the top of a mountain, was conducted for many year by about 30 to 40 monks. As the Monastery was very poor it was closed for approxametly 150 year. During this period it was used for different purposes. Gelong Rinchaen Tsering moved to the monastery in the beginning of the 20st century and lived there alone for many years. He started to conduct healing and buddhism teachings to the communities around. Slowly the Monastery grew and more monks lived there to attend the lessons. In 2001 Tulku Lama Jampa Chöjor , Tulku Jangchup Pelsang Jampa Thenley and Lobsang Tendar began the enlargment of the Monastery. The Geyje Norling Monastery School hosts at present about 60 students and wishes to maintain 11 classes with 25 students in each class in the future.

YASW was established in 1991 with the object to establish an indigenous organization to work for the development of the State of Arunachal Pradesh (India). Arunachal Pradesh is one of the largest States with tribal population and situated in the northeastern part of India. Because of its remoteness and tough geographical terrain, lack of proper transport and communication system, the region remained backward. Education also came very lately and modern development took its own time.

The pace of development being very slow and Government schemes not reaching the people, A need was felt to start an indigenous people based organization with the main objective to work for growth and development of a just and equitable society. And thus YASW was established by a group of educated youth. It was felt that the country was passing through a period of erosion of morality and the need to nip this in the bud stage only before it becomes a catastrophic for the society of the tibeto-mongoloid people in the area.

In its forward march, YASW has taken up social issues affecting the society and has embarked in the field of education and village economic empowerment and development. Today, it is running a residential school for boys and girls from the disadvantaged and poor section of the society at Lumla in Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh. It is also working on wasteland development through Horticulture plants like Apple, Orange, Walnut, Guava, Banana etc. It is also working with 10 different village monasteries for their upkeep, preservation and promotion of the Buddhist art and culture. A strong need is felt for the preservation and promotion of rich culture and tradition of tribal people, which is passed on from generation to generation. From time to time, it organizes Seminars, Workshops on different burning issues concerning education, health, environment and unemployment.

Thus, YASW is a charitable and non-profit organization with its headquarters at State Capital Itanagar and presently operating from the Tawang, Aranashal Pradesh. There are various programs which the organization is embarking for the development of the people.
